A few weeks ago our stock arrived for the summer and we realised… we have a problem. More on that below.
It’s a problem with an upside – an upside that means today we’re releasing our first ever co-ords: perfect for cloud nine summers.
With EcoVero™️ linen trousers that Mia called “floaty and stylish and comfortable and so affordable” and matching tops made from material that Emma D. called “soft as a cloud”.
So if you fancy floating away on some summer breeze next month, like some kind of Mary Poppins, as effortlessly cool as Rihanna and needs no umbrella, this is the outfit to do it in.
GO TO CLOUD NINE
Why this is a six tonne problem...
Not long ago we only sold T-shirts and hoodies. These days we’re designing dresses and outfits and pyjamas and shirts and jeans and jackets.
This became a problem a few weeks ago.
We’d just moved about 15 tonnes of clothing, newly arrived from our solar-assisted factory in India.
We could have built our own warehouse using the shipping boxes as cardboard bricks. But apparently it “wouldn’t have enough structural integrity” for the surveyors.
So instead, we crammed everything inside a couple of steel containers and an office that was definitely too small to ship it all.
It was slowly dawning on us that we’d created a situation for ourselves.
This was confirmed a short time later after one of our first new launches, when we stayed until 10pm, pulling in help from founder Sam’s wife, Olivia, to help ship all the orders.
We couldn’t put Olivia through that night again, so we got on the phone. And we tried to see if someone else could look after all our stuff.
“Hello, do you have space for 15 tonnes of affordable, ethical clothing?”
Eventually a lovely warehouse-dispatching company bailed us out.
And then we really saw how far we’d come
Two years ago, we moved to a new warehouse location.
And the whole move could be handled by our founder Sam, his dad (big dad points), and a transit van.
A few weeks ago… we needed eight people and a lorry.
Now we’re in heavy-goods vehicle territory, baby. Watch for us on the M1.
And truth is, you’ve come a long way with us in just two years – chasing this dream to transform the fashion industry.
We’re seeing more and more tips go to our garment workers. You tipped 3x more this April than you did in the first six months of last year. Wow. You truly are a generous community. And to date, with our living wage premium and your tips we’ve given over £38,000 directly to garment workers.
Mihir, who runs the team in India, just told us some fresh stories of what they’re up to with the extra wages.
One garment worker was able to afford to host a dinner for his wider family who hadn’t gathered in a long while. Another was able to get a birthday present for his wife. Still another bought a pickleball racket for his son. Both said it felt wonderful to surprise them.
One saver is putting everything towards an electric bicycle for his daily commute. While a stitching operator used her bonus to buy a traditional Indian suit – taking a rare chance to buy something for herself instead of her household.
“These moments may seem small,” said Mihir, “but they mean a great deal to the people receiving them.”
Tipping garment workers is just one part of The Generous Life you’ve made a reality.
You probably know our recipe by now – handpicking the best fabrics (for you and the planet), paying garment workers well, charging you unbelievable prices. And only taking small margins to make the numbers all add up.
It’s a good life – one that Craig (some friend on TrustPilot) said is “slowly taking over my wardrobe.”
If you want to float into this life a little more, our soft-as-a-cloud co-ords are waiting in the wings for you.
