GO GIFT HUNTING
This is a Christmas email, the same way that Die Hard is a Christmas film.
Today we're obligated to say things like "get your gifts now" and "last Christmas shipping dates are below" even though what we really want to do is hijack the Christmas theme to talk about Die Hard and the time John McClane fought his way to the top floor of a building to save innocent hostages.
We’re scared we might end up in the same predicament as the civilians John was rescuing. Let us explain.
We had our Christmas party the other day, and we were giving out awards to our team.
The award for "Best new coffee delivery service" went to Jay, our Creative Director.
Jay felt like his job description wasn’t quite broad enough, and so he expanded it with a brand new, much needed team service. He’s now known as ‘Jaybucks’ and is usually seen with a mocha in hand, as well as a coffee for you.
The award for “Loves work so much they moved into a shipping container next door” went to Hope, our Designer.
Hope loves working at our office so much she moved into a shipping container next door (in case this wasn’t clear). The shipping container is furnished as a cute office space where she works on her homeware brand By Hope, it’s not an empty metal box, so you don’t actually need to worry about her living conditions.
And the award for “Most likely to price a priceless antique at £10” went to Susie, our Operations Director
You might remember, Susie took the antique props from our latest photoshoot and flogged them all on Facebook Marketplace for £10 an item. She basically launched her own business inside Yes Friends and kept true to our incredibly affordable pricing.
But the night didn’t end there. There’s another award we should mention…
It went to a particular person who regularly spends all their Yes Friends earnings on the clothing they’re selling. And although we applauded the enthusiasm, we’re also a little worried it might go beyond enthusiasm.
Now we know everyone has some kind of obsession. Even if it’s just for a season.
And normally we’re 100% for people dressed head to toe in Yes Friends, but..
Have you ever had a friend whose new pet becomes an obsession, to the point where the dog, cat or tortoise becomes a permanent part of your friend’s personality?
That’s what we’re worried about here.
This unnamed person we work with has a wardrobe made almost entirely of Yes Friends products, and we’re worried they might have cardboard cutouts of the team in their bedroom. And maybe we should have asked about this in the job interview.
But we dare not kick them out of the team. Apart from the fact we like them very much, maybe they’re like that superfan from The Incredibles who, if rejected, would make it their life’s mission to take us all down. And years later, at an office Christmas party taking place on the top floor of a many-storied building, we’d find ourselves taken hostage – and we’d be relying on NYPD Officer John McClane to rescue us.
Like we said, we just really wanted to talk about Die Hard.
