We’re a little obsessed with a colour right now.
It was almost the theme of our Generous Life collection. More on that story below.
And this colour did become the backdrop of our new photoshoot.
The colour pigment was made and mixed by some of our Ukrainian friends who were battling electricity outages to get it ready for us. Then they lovingly lathered the colour onto a huge canvas sheet.
We’ve never been this excited about a big sheet of canvas.
It’s the backdrop for many of our launches this year, including our new collection The Generous Life. If you haven’t explored it yet, be generous to your soul – treat yourself to a browse.
THE GENEROUS LIFE
How we tried to force flaming hot orange into The Generous Life...
At Yes Friends, we have two Sams – both have strong opinions when it comes to ideas.
A few months ago they debated back and forth how we could combine the idea of The Generous Life with graphic T-shirts and the colour orange.
They believed this was a good use of their time.
The very first Yes Friends logo was flaming hot orange. And we put a flaming hot orange button in every email we send.
Surely our Generous Life collection should include the colour orange too.
“What about a T-shirt that says, “I bought you a clementine!” one Sam said.
“That’s not a grand enough gesture,” the other Sam said. “What if it said, ‘I bought you a clementine orchard.’”
“With a picture of a clementine orchard on the T-shirt?” said Sam, quite seriously. “That could work.”
“Chillis” said the other Sam. “They’re orange.”
“Sometimes,” said Sam.
“Sometimes, admitted the other Sam. “Could we have a graphic showing a pile of chillies?”
“It could say, ‘I bought you a lifetime’s supply of chillies!'" said the other Sam.
“Or ‘A lifetime’s supply of flaming hot orange chillies!”
“Just like the button!” said Sam.
“Just like the button!” said the other Sam.
The Sams really thought they had stumbled upon something special.
Until they spoke with our new creative director, Jay – a man known for his everyday acts of generosity.
“I’m not sure a clementine orchard will work as a visual,” Jay said. “But great ideas, guys!”
Always so generous with his words, Jay.
“What if our graphics depict everyday acts of generosity?” Jay said, true to character. “Like offering to share your umbrella with someone in the rain.”
This was a more relatable gesture, the Sams conceded.“It’s a bit like how our people offer everyday generosity to our garment workers every time they leave a tip,” one of the Sams said – we forget which one.
“Let me sketch out some ideas,” said Jay. And he did. You can see his ideas displayed on our latest Generous Life T-shirts and sweatshirts.
And while the graphics might not have been orange, the photoshoot backdrop supplied by our friends in the Ukraine ensures that our Sams can still slip their favourite colour into the launch.
Now go hit that flaming hot orange button.
